Box Score

DETROIT - Erik Warren and Eric Gehrig scored six minutes apart to lift Loyola University Chicago (4-7-4, 1-4-2 Horizon) to a 2-0 victory over host Detroit (3-12-1, 1-6-0 Horizon) this afternoon at rainy and windy Titan Field. With the win, the Ramblers picked up their first Horizon League win of the year and snapped a nine-match winless streak.

The teams played to a scoreless first half even though the Titans held a 13-4 edge in shots. Loyola was finally able to break the stalemate in the 75th minute when Erik Warren sent a header off a throw-in from Jordan Lewis high into the right corner of the net past Detroit keeper Brandon Waterstadt for his first goal of the season.

Gehrig added an insurance goal in the 81st minute when he connected on a penalty kick for his second goal of 2009.

Loyola closes out the 2009 regular season when it plays host to Green Bay Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. The Ramblers will recognize their senior class of Malcolm DeBaun, Michael Ferguson, Gehrig, Mark Halma and Alex Jones, at the match.
