CHICAGO - Host DePaul turned 28 Loyola turnovers into 34 points and the Ramblers were ice cold from the floor, shooting a season-low 28% in a 73-30 loss to the Blue Demons tonight at McGrath Arena in Lincoln Park. Loyola slumps to 4-3 while DePaul moves to 7-2 with the win.
After spotting DePaul the first six points of the game, Loyola charged back. Katie Kortekamp knocked down a three-pointer and scored on a lay-up inside to make it 6-5 and, minutes later, Keisha Collins scored and was fouled to keep LU within two (9-7) at the first media timeout. After the teams traded baskets, the Ramblers could not buy a bucket as a Maggie McCloskey three-pointer was the team's only basket over a 15-minute stretch until Elyse VanBogaert and Keisha Collins scored in the final minute to make it a 34-16 game at halftime.
The Ramblers struggled to find its rhythm in the second half as well as DePaul cruised to the finish line.
VanBogaert finished 5 of 9 from the floor for a team-high 10 points to lead Loyola. Kortekamp added a career-high nine, including a pair of three-pointers.
Loyola takes a week off for exams before returning to the hardwood next Thursday (Dec. 17) against Northern Illinois. Tip-off from the Gentile Center is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on Lakeshore Public Television.
