Arceneaux Leads Loyola Past Bradley, 5-2

March 26, 2009

Box Score

PEORIA, Ill. - Freshman Lauren Arceneaux drove in three runs to help lead Loyola University Chicago (14-9) to a 5-2 victory over Bradley (12-14) this afternoon at Laura Bradley Park. With the win, the Ramblers improve to 3-1 against in-state foes this season, and snap a two-game losing skid.

Loyola took a 2-0 lead without the aid of a base hit after its first turn at bat. Ellen Kresl opened the game with a walk, and following a free pass to Stevie Bradich and an out, Kresl and Bradich perfectly executed a double steal, with Kresl crossing the plate thanks to a throwing error on Bradley catcher Jacqueline Vitale. Arceneaux followed with a bunt that scored Bradich to give the Ramblers a two-run advantage.

The game would stay that way until the fifth inning, when Julie Sherman recorded a RBI triple, and scored herself on a muffed throw to even the contest at 2-2.

Much as it has all spring, Loyola countered an opponent's rally with one of its own. The Ramblers tallied three runs in the top of the sixth inning, with the big blow coming courtesy of a two-run double by Arceneaux, and would never look back en route to the win.

Senior right-hander Krista Crosson pitched a complete game en route to her eighth win of the year, and scattered four hits, while striking out three. Kresl and Bradich scored a pair of runs apiece and each added a stolen base to pace the Ramblers offense, which scored five runs despite only four hits.

Loyola travels to No. 12 Michigan for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28.
