CHICAGO - Amy Solava threw a one-hitter and Jenna Grim drove in three runs to lead Loyola University Chicago (17-12, 5-2 Horizon) to a 4-0 victory over visiting Green Bay (14-14, 3-4 Horizon) this afternoon for its third straight win. With the victory, Loyola, which pounded out 10 hits today, improves to 17-2 this season when scoring three or more runs.
The Ramblers used their team speed to manufacture a run in the second inning after singles by Grim and Kristin Guska. Kaycee Tharp, who was pinch running for Grim, and Guska successfully pulled off a double steal of second and third base, with Tharp coming around to score on a throwing error by Phoenix catcher Missy Schleicher.
Loyola padded its lead in the bottom of the third courtesy of Grim's two-run single that she couldn't have placed any better just inside the foul line in right field, and the Ramblers tacked on an insurance run on the sixth when Alexandra Trudnich lead off with a triple and crossed the plate one batter later on Grim's single to center.
Solava was dazzling in the circle, allowing only a fourth-inning single to Sara Junion, and one walk. The right-hander struck out five Phoenix hitters en route to her third straight victory.
Grim recorded her first three-hit game of the season and had three RBIs to lead the Ramblers' offense, while Bridget Lally and Haley Ambrosch each registered a pair of hits.
Loyola and Green Bay conclude their three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
