DETROIT - One day after pounding out 31 hits in a doubleheader sweep, the Loyola University Chicago (26-22, 14-10 Horizon) offense picked up where it left off and rapped out 13 hits en route to an 8-2 victory over host Detroit (7-40, 3-17 Horizon) at Buysse Ballpark this afternoon. The win gives the Ramblers their second series sweep over a Horizon League foe this spring.
Loyola got things cooking on offense right off the bat once again. Stephanie Cihlar reached base on a Titans error with one out in the top of the first inning, and later scored on Jenna Grim's RBI double to put the Ramblers ahead for good, 1-0. The Ramblers added five runs to the scoreboard in the second inning to open up a 6-0 lead as five different players drove in runs in that frame.
The Ramblers added insurance runs in both the fifth and seventh innings, respectively, on solo home runs by Amy Solava and Kristen Medrud.
Eight Ramblers picked up at least one hit on the day, led by Solava's 3-for-4 effort. The junior right-hander also earned the win, tossing six innings, while allowing only one earned run and striking out four.
Three other Loyola hitters - Lauren Arceneaux, Grim and Angie Funston - tallied two hits each.
Loyola opens up play at the Horizon League Championship in Pendleton, Ind., Thursday.
