No. 24 DePaul Knocks Off Loyola, 80-48

Dec. 9, 2010

Box Score

CHICAGO - Sophomore Monica Albano scored a game-high 21 points but Loyola could not overcome a 32% shooting night in an 80-48 loss to No. 24 DePaul tonight at the Gentile Center. Loyola drops back to .500 (4-4) while the Blue Demons improve to 10-1 with the win.

The game was close in the early going, as Lindsey Sebetic scored six points to keep the Ramblers within a point (11-10) over six minutes into the game. However, the Ramblers went ice cold from the floor while the Blue Demons got hot from distance and consecutive Sam Quigley three-pointers jumpstarted a 19-0 DePaul spurt that gave the visitors a commanding 30-10 lead at the 7:07 mark. Albano ended LU's seven-minute drought as the teams played evenly over the final seven minutes with DePaul taking a 42-21 lead into intermission. Loyola shot just 29% (9 of 31) in the period including a frosty 1-for-11 from distance.

Albano added 11 more points in the second half but the Blue Demons, led by Katherine Harry were too much and eased to the win.

Albano, the reigning Horizon League Player of the Week, reached the 20-point mark for the fourth time in five games, leading the Ramblers with 21 points. Sebetic scored all six of her points in the first 6:22 while Troy Hambric racked up six points and a career-high six rebounds off the bench.

Loyola has little time to reflect on the game, returning to action on Saturday afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. matinee against Chicago State at the Gentile Center.
