GREEN BAY, Wis. - Danielle Peerenboom's three-run triple highlighted a four-run sixth inning as Green Bay (18-8, 4-2 Horizon) rallied for a 6-3 victory over Loyola University Chicago (13-15, 5-5 Horizon) in game one of a doubleheader this afternoon at Ben Garot Field. Loyola righthander Angie Funston suffered only her second loss of the season and had a personal five-game winning streak snapped.
The Ramblers manufactured a run in the first inning as Brooke Andresen led off the game with a single to extend her hitting streak to 14 contests, then moved up a pair of bases on consecutive groundouts before scampering home on a wild pitch. Green Bay would get that run right back in the bottom half of the first however, when Katie Cooney doubled home Sara Junion.
Bridget Lally's RBI groundout and Kristen Medrud's run-scoring single in the fourth inning put Loyola on top, 3-1 and the game would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth when the Phoenix cut the deficit in half thanks to Peerenboom's lead-off home run to left center.
Peerenboom victimized Loyola one last time when she roped a two-out, bases loaded triple in the bottom of the sixth to score three runs and put Green Bay ahead, 5-3. Kendra Woepse's RBI single plated Peerenboom to provide an insurance run for the Phoenix.
Loyola's offense, which had been white hot the last few weeks, was limited to five hits by Cooney, who struck out four to earn her fifth win of the year.
