DAYTON, Ohio - Loyola University Chicago (9-13, 1-3 Horizon) split a doubleheader at Wright State Friday afternoon, winning game one, 10-2, before dropping the nightcap, 6-4. The Ramblers have now won three of their last four outings.
In the opener, Loyola jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Angie Funston's run-scoring sacrifice fly, but Wright State evened the score in the bottom half of the inning. A home run by Jenna Grim in the top of the second inning gave the Ramblers a 2-1 lead, and a five-run fourth, highlighted by a two-run triple by Stephanie Cihlarm and a two-run home run off the bat of Jacqueline Grim, gave Loyola a 9-2 lead.
Funston tossed 5.0 innings and scattered six hits en route to the win. Brooke Andresen and Jenna Grim each recorded three hits, while Cihlar went 2-for-4 to spark the Loyola offense.
In the nightcap, Loyola took an early 1-0 lead when Funston reached on a fielder's choice and later came around to score on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning.
After falling behind, 4-3 after three innings, the Ramblers knotted the score at 4-4 in the fourth on Kristen Medrud's RBI single, but WSU took the lead for good and never looked back on Mollie Berry's RBI double in the fifth inning.
Cihlar went 2-for-4 to lead Loyola's offense in game two.
The two teams wrap up the three-game series with a single contest Saturday, April 3.
