CHICAGO - Ten players recorded at least one hit and Loyola University Chicago (21-24, 9-12 Horizon) used an 11-run third inning to roll past Detroit (3-38, 0-23 Horizon), 19-0, in game one of a doubleheader at Loyola Softball Park this afternoon. Junior Jacqueline Grim belted a pair of home runs and had six RBI despite coming off the bench as the Ramblers pounded out 17 hits and scored a school-record 19 runs.
After jumping out to a one-run lead after one inning of play, Loyola began to pull away in the second inning when it put four runs on the board, with two of those runs coming around on a Jenna Grim single up the middle.
Loyola sent 15 batters to the plate in an 11-run third inning and left fielder Stephanie Cihlar drove in four runs alone in that inning on a two-run triple and two-run single, while the Ramblers also got a two-run homer from Amy Solava and a three-run roundtripper off the bat of Jacqueline Grim in the big inning.
Jacqueline Grim added to the Loyola lead in the fourth when she crushed a three-run blast over the fence in right field for her second homer of the game, to complete the scoring.
Solava allowed just one hit and struck out one in three innings for her first win since March 10, while Hilary Payne tossed two perfect innings of relief.
Brooke Andresen and Cihlar tallied three hits apiece to lead a Loyola offense which also saw three players - Jacqueline Grim, Kristen Medrud and Ellen Kresl post a pair of hits each.
