2011 WIU Autumn Invitational Final Results
Oct. 10, 2011
MACOMB, Ill. - Buoyed by the outstanding performances by Ann Vrdolyak, Alexandra Meyers and April Ohlendorf, the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team held onto its first-round lead to capture the team title at the WIU Autumn Invitational, which concluded with 18 holes today at Harry Mussatto Golf Course. A balanced team attack helped the Ramblers post a 36-hole score of 625 to finish 10 strokes up on runner-up SIU Edwardsville (635).
A remarkable, record-setting senior season continues to get better for Vrdolyak, who captured medalist honors for the second time in four tournaments this fall by posting a 148 (75-73), which included a one-over-par 73 in today's final round. Vrdolyak's score eclipsed her previous Loyola 36-hole-score record of 149 set at the season-opening Green Bay Invitational last month.
However, Vrdolyak wasn't the only Rambler to shine as Meyers notched her fourth top-ten performance in as many meets this season by placing third with a 154 (74-80). After undergoing offseason surgery, Ohlendorf continues to round back into the form that helped her earn Horizon League Newcomer of the Year honors last year. The sophomore carded a 36-hole score of 158 (81-77) to give Loyola its third top-five finisher at the WIU Autumn Invitational.
Fellow sophomores Christy Taugner (88-80=168) and Carly Schneider (85-87=172) also played admirably, tying for 17th and 25th place respectively, to help the Ramblers to the team crown.
Loyola concludes the fall season when it competes at the Chi-Town Showdown, later this month. That meet will be held October 23 or 24.
