Dec. 31, 2011

Box Score

Green Bay, Wis. - No. 18/14 Green Bay used a 14-0 run midway through the first half to open a double-digit lead and earned a 76-49 win over Loyola this afternoon at the Kress Center in Green Bay, Wis. The Ramblers (6-7, 1-1 Horizon) settle for a split of their weekend trip to Wisconsin while the Phoenix remain unbeaten, improving to 12-0 (2-0).

"Obviously we struggled to take care of the basketball today," said head coach Eric Simpson. "Green Bay is a quality team and you have to protect the ball and maximize your possessions and we did not do that today. I am looking forward to improving on some things this week and we are looking forward to getting back home and protecting our home court, starting with Thursday night against Wright State."

Both teams got off to sluggish starts on the offensive end but six early points from Simone Law helped the Ramblers take an early 10-8 lead after six minutes of action. However, Loyola went cold, going scoreless for the next six minutes as Green Bay rattled off 14 unanswered points to take a 22-10 lead. Monica Albano ended the drought with a three-pointer and two Patrice King free throws a little bit later pulled the Ramblers within seven (24-17) at the 6:13 mark. Loyola was still down only eight at the five-minute mark but Green Bay closed the half on an 18-5 run to take a 45-24 lead into halftime and were never headed.

Law led the Ramblers with 10 points and added six rebounds while Skube equalled that output, scoring all of her 10 points in the second half.

Loyola returns home next week for a pair of home games starting with a Thursday night tilt against Wright State. Tip time from Gentile Arena is set for 7 p.m.
