Box Score
DETROIT - Andy Polka scored a season-high 18 points and Loyola University Chicago (13-11, 4-9 Horizon) received 33 points from its bench, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 28-point effort by Chase Simon as Detroit (13-12, 7-6 Horizon) earned an 81-71 victory at Calihan Hall this afternoon.
The game was a back-and-forth affair in the first half but the Titans took a 41-37 lead at the break as Simon scored 14 of his points in the opening 20 minutes.
Loyola opened the second half with an 8-3 run and took the lead (45-44) on Polka's lay-up. However, Detroit answered right back, claiming the lead for good on a three-pointer by Jason Calliste. The Titans would eventually stretch that advantage to 70-57 with 5:41 left before the Ramblers mounted one final charge.
Back-to-back threes from Ben Averkamp and Gabe Kindred, followed by a steal and lay-up by Kindred, brought Loyola within five points, at 70-65, but the Ramblers would get no closer the rest of the way.
In addition to his 18 points, Polka snagged five rebounds and added two assists, while Geoff McCammon came off the bench to throw in 15 points and rip down a career-best six boards. Averkamp chipped in 12 points and Kindred added 10 points for the Ramblers.
Loyola returns home Thursday (Feb. 10) when it hosts Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
