INDIANAPOLIS - Homestanding Butler raced out to a 21-point lead and Loyola was never able to get into a flow in a 72-46 loss this evening at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The Ramblers slip to 11-14 (6-8 Horizon) while Butler improves to 11-13 (7-6).
Turnovers and cold shooting were the story of the first half for the Ramblers as Butler turned 17 LU turnovers into 19 points. The Bulldogs raced to an early 15-4 lead as Loyola turned it over seven times missed four of its first six shots. Despite the struggles, Loyola was still down just 21-10 after another King basket but the Ramblers would make just one field goal over the final 10:38 of the half as Butler streaked to a 40-19 lead at the break. King made all four of LU's field goals in the opening half, hitting 4-of-6 shots while the rest of the team combined to go 0 for 11. However, Loyola was guilty of 17 turnovers in the period to counterbalance its 16 free throw attempts.
Loyola still struggled to find the range in the second half but continued to attack the basket. For the game, the Ramblers shot just 28% but did connect on 22 of its 30 free throw attempts.
King led the Ramblers with 11 points with Abby Skube pitching in with nine (7-10 FTs) and Simone Law scoring all eight of her points from the free throw line (0-4 FGs, 8-8 FTs).
Devin Brierly led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Jenna Cobb tied a Horizon League single-game record with 12 steals.
Loyola returns to action this Saturday at Valparaiso.
