Loyola Softball Drops Series Finale Versus Green Bay, 5-2

April 19, 2012

Box Score

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Loyola University Chicago (18-20, 11-7 Horizon) loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning but ultimately came up short in a 5-2 loss at Green Bay (16-19, 5-7 Horizon) in the final of a three-game series at Ben Garot Field this afternoon. The loss snaps the Ramblers' three-game winning streak.

The game couldn't have gotten off to a better start as centerfielder Brooke Andresen deposited Ashley Nannemann's first offering of the game over the fence in left for an opposite-field, lead-off home run to give Loyola a 1-0 lead.

Green Bay grabbed the lead and never relinquished it by scoring three times in the bottom of the third inning with Danielle Peerenboom's two-run triple being the big blow.

Loyola cut the deficit in half with a run in the fourth on Tarran Shaffer's run-scoring triple, but the host Phoenix tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-2 advantage.

The Ramblers mounted a huge threat in the top of the seventh inning when it loaded the bases and had only one out, but they were unable to overcome the three-run deficit and saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt.

Andresen and Lauren Arceneaux tallied two hits apiece to lead the Loyola offense.

Loyola is off for the weekend and returns to the diamond when it hosts Northwestern on April 24.
