Kody Williams Added to Loyola Men's Basketball Roster

June 27, 2012

CHICAGO - Kody Williams (Niceville, Fla./Niceville/Tallahassee CC), a 6-foot-2, 190-pound combo guard, has been added to the 2012-13 Loyola University Chicago men's basketball roster, head coach Porter Moser announced today. Williams spent the 2011-12 season at Tallahassee Community College where he averaged a team-best 4.1 assists per game to go with 4.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals.

"Kody gives us toughness and athleticism at the guard spot," Moser said. "He can play the one, two or three spots and brings collegiate experience to our program having been at both Southern Mississippi and Tallahassee Community College. Kody is a long, athletic player who can be a great defensive stopper for us."

Prior to arriving at Tallahassee Community College, Williams spent one season at the University of Southern Mississippi and appeared in four games during the 2010-11 campaign, averaging 1.0 ppg, 0.5 rpg and 1.0 apg, while compiling an impressive 4.0 assist-to-turnover ratio for a team that went 22-10.

A tremendous all-around athlete who also lettered in football and track, Williams was recruited by Atlantic Coast, Southeastern and Big Ten Conference schools for football, but followed his heart to play basketball at Southern Miss. At Niceville High School in Niceville, Fla., Williams was named Northwest Daily News All-Area Player of the Year and also was the recipient of his team's most outstanding player award.

Born in Chicago, although his family eventually moved to Florida, Williams is the cousin of former DePaul standout and NBA All-Star Mark Aguirre. He joins a strong Loyola recruiting class that includes forwards Nick Osborne (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central), Matt O'Leary (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North Vigo), Tanner Williams (Orion, Ill./Orion), center Jeremy King (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas), and guards Jeff "Keke" White (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Manual) and Devon Turk (Houston, Texas/Westbury Christian).

Loyola welcomes back three starters from its 2011-12 team, including Second Team All-Horizon League forward Ben Averkamp. The Ramblers also will receive support from University of Iowa transfer Cully Payne, who is eligible for the 2012-13 season.
