STARKVILLE, Miss. - Milton Doyle scored a team-high 22 points, but Loyola University Chicago (3-5) dropped a 65-64 decision in overtime to host Mississippi State (5-1) this afternoon at Humphrey Coliseum.
Doyle hit a clutch three-pointer with 1:09 left in regulation to tie the game at 56 and force the overtime.
Christian Thomas hit a pair of free throws with 1:52 left in the extra session to put Loyola on top, 62-61, but a three-point play by Craig Sword and later a free throw by Roquez Johnson gave MSU a 65-62 edge. A hoop by Thomas with 33 seconds left brought Loyola within one, and after the Bulldogs missed a pair of foul shots, Loyola had a chance to win the game, but Doyle's three-pointe was blocked as the final horn sounded.
In addition to Doyle's 22 points, Loyola got 12 points and nine boards from Thomas and 10 points from Devon Turk.
Loyola takes a week off before hosting city and former league rival UIC on Saturday, December 7 at 3 p.m.
