CARBONDALE, lll. - Freshman Logan Willis fired an 81 today to lead the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team in the opening round of the Saluki Invitational. The Ramblers team score of 335 has them in 11th-place in the team standings but only 13 strokes out of the top-five.
Host Southern Illinois (309) currently holds a two-stroke lead over Indiana State (311) in the race for the team championship. Local rival Chicago State (320) is in third. Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry sits atop the individual leaderboard after carding a three-under-par 69 this afternoon at the Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Carbondale, Ill. Katterhenry's mark set a new first-round record for the Saluki Invitational.
Willis' first-round score puts the Kohler, Wis. native in a tie for 23rd-place. Seniors April Ohlendorf and Carly Schneider were each hot on the heels of the freshman as both posted scores of 83. Olivia Lindsley (88) and Carey Farley (89) rounded out the Loyola lineup.
Final round play at the Saluki Invitational kicks off tomorrow morning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
