Indiana State Blitzes Loyola, 64-37

Jan. 11, 2015

Final Stats

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State jumped out to a big lead in the first half and never looked back, defeating Loyola by a final score of 64-37 this afternoon inside the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The Sycamores move to 12-3 overall (2-2 Missouri Valley) with the win, while Loyola drops to 2-13 (0-4 Missouri Valley).

As was the case in Thursday night's matchup with Evansville, Loyola started slow out of the blocks on the offensive end, missing on its first eight attempts from the field. Taylor Manuel's first of two traditional three-point plays ended a scoring drought of 7:12 to open the game for the Maroon & Gold, making it 14-3, Sycamores, with 12:48 remaining in the first half.

Loyola looked to be on the verge of finding its footing after back-to-back buckets from Bailey Farley and Molly Crosby cut the deficit to 15 (25-10) with 5:57 to play in the half. Indiana State responded, closing the half on a 13-3 spurt to speed into the locker room with a 38-13 lead.

Manuel led the way for Loyola in the opening stanza with eight points as the Ramblers were held to just under 19% (5-of-21) from the field. Indiana State finished the half at 10-of-30 (33%), connecting of five shots from beyond the three-point arc to go along with 13 made free throws. Greer finished with a team-high 11 points for the Sycamores in the game's opening 20 minutes.

Farley connected from distance before feeding Courtney Lindfors in the post to chip the host's lead down to 20 (38-18) with just over two minutes gone in the second half, forcing Indiana State to burn an early timeout. The Sycamores again punched back, going on a 12-3 run that spanned the next five minutes to widen the margin to 29 (50-21) at the 12:37 mark of the second half.

Despite the deficit, Manuel continued to go to work in the painted area. The St. Louis, Mo. native scored six-straight points for the Ramblers, with the final two of her afternoon coming off a pass find from Becca Smith to slice the deficit down to 25 (54-29) with 7:34 to play. A pair of free throws by Greer with 6:15 remaining pushed the Sycamore lead to the 30-point mark (59-29) for the first time as Indiana State cruised from there.

Manuel finished with a game-high 17 points, marking the fourth consecutive game that the redshirt sophomore has scored in double-figures. She also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Farley, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., chipped in a season-best seven points. Greer (15 points) and Chelsea Small (10 points) led a balanced Indiana State attack that saw 12 of the 14 players who saw time on the floor record at least two points.

Loyola returns to the friendly confines of Gentile Arena at the end of the week to embark on a season-long three-game homestand. The Ramblers will begin that stretch on Friday evening (Jan. 16) by hosting the Missouri State Bears at 7 p.m.
