MYRTLE BEACH - After defeating Saint Joseph's 9-5 in yesterday's opening game of the Coastal Carolina Invitational, the Loyola University Chicago softball team fell to the Hawks 7-0 on Saturday morning. Brie Pasquale recorded two of Loyola's six hits, including her fourth double of the season.
Madison Hope and the Rambler defense were able to hold Saint Joseph's scoreless until the top the third, when a single and a sacrifice bunt led to an RBI single and a 1-0 Hawks lead. The Hawks struck again in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of three hits and a Rambler error to put another run on the board and increase the lead to 2-0.
After Saint Joseph's added two more runs in the top of the sixth, the Ramblers started the bottom of the inning with a leadoff walk by Annie Korth, followed by a single from Pasquale. Jessica Balzano then singled to load the bases with no outs, but Loyola was unable to score and left all three runners stranded. The Hawks built on their lead in the top of the seventh, knocking in three runs on four hits and an error, to ultimately win the game 7-0.
