ROSEMONT, Ill. - A two-run seventh inning pushed Evansville past Loyola, 3-2, in the third and final game of the season's first conference series, handing the Ramblers their first Valley loss of the season. Jessica Balzano hit three-for-three and recorded two stolen bases, while Brooke Wyderski and Tarran Shaffer each crossed home plate once.
The Ramblers struck early, as an Evansville throwing error in the top of the first inning allowed Wyderski to score, giving Loyola a 1-0 lead. The Purple Aces responded in the bottom of the second, as a leadoff double led to a run, tying the game at 1-1.
In the top of the sixth, Jessica Balzano led off the frame with a single before stealing second base. Tarran Shaffer and Jamie O'Brien both walked to load the bases before an Evansville error allowed Shaffer to score, giving the Ramblers a 2-1 lead.
Evansville started the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk before a Rambler throwing error put two runners on base. The Purple Aces then knocked in two runs on a single up the middle, claiming the 3-2 victory in walk-off fashion.
With the loss, Loyola drops to 10-13 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
The Ramblers are back in action next weekend when they host Northern Iowa on March 21-22 in the first home series of the season.
