CHICAGO - After winning game one of Wednesday's double-header in 14 innings, the Loyola University Chicago dropped game two to Indiana State, 9-6. Jamie O'Brien led the Ramblers with two hits, two runs and an RBI, while Brooke Wyderski recorded her second home run of the day and ninth of the season to tie Loyola's all-time record for home runs in a freshman season.
Indiana State got on the board first, as a triple to left center led to a sacrifice fly to give the Sycamores an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. However, the Ramblers responded at the bottom of the frame with back-to-back singles from Erica Nagel and Jamie O'Brien before Annie Korth doubled to knock in two runs and give Loyola a 2-1 lead.
The Sycamores led off the top of the second with a walk before a home run to center field gave Indiana State a 3-2 lead. A double and a fielding error then put two runners on base before a groundout knocked in another run to increase the lead to 4-2.
Ashley Parenti led off the bottom of the second inning with a double down the left field line before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt from Tarran Shaffer. Jamie O'Brien then drew a walk before Parenti scored on a wild pitch to cut the Indiana State lead to 4-3. Brooke Wyderski then gave the Ramblers the lead with a two-run shot to left center, her second home run of the day, making the score 5-4. Wyderski now totals nine on the season, tying Loyola's all-time record for most home runs in a freshman season, set by Brie Pasquale in 2013.
Indiana State responded in the top of the third, as a lead off walk led to a two-run home run to put the Sycamores back on top, 6-5. After a two-out walk, Ashley Rogers entered the game for Madison Hope. Two more walks loaded the bases for the Sycamores before a double knocked in two more runs to increase the Indiana State lead to 8-5.
Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the sixth inning, as back-to-back singles and a double added another run for Indiana State, making the score 9-5. At the bottom of the frame, Parenti reached base on an error before advancing to second on a groundout. Jamie O'Brien then singled to bring Parenti home and cut the Sycamore lead to 9-6. However, neither team scored for the remainder of the game, giving Indiana State the 9-6 victory.
The Ramblers are back in action tomorrow when they travel across town to Lincoln Park to take on DePaul at 4:00 p.m.
