CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago softball team traveled across town for a non-conference matchup against DePaul on Thursday and fell to the Blue Demons, 4-1. The Ramblers outhit the Blue Demons five hits to three, including two from Annie Korth and a triple from Tarran Shaffer.
After a scoreless first inning, the Ramblers led off the top of the second with back-to-back singles from Korth and Ashley Parenti. Hannah Jenkins then doubled to center field to knock in a run and give Loyola a 1-0 lead.
Neither team recorded a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning, after a walk led to a two-run home run put the Blue Demons on top, 2-1. After a scoreless fifth inning, DePaul struck again in the bottom of the sixth. The Blue Demons got things started with a leadoff double before another home run knocked in two more runs to increase the lead to 4-1.
Loyola was unable to score in the top of the seventh, giving DePaul the 4-1 victory.
The Ramblers are back in action this weekend when they host Southern Illinois in a three-game series at Loyola Softball Park beginning Saturday at noon.
