CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team opened postseason play on Friday night with a three-set sweep (25-17,25-14, 25-13) of Quincy. The Ramblers led a balanced attack against the Hawks in the MIVA Quarterfinal matchup, as Thomas Jaeschke and Cody Caldwell led the team with seven kills a apiece, while Jeff Jendryk and Ricky Gevis added six and five, respectively. With the win, Loyola advances to the MIVA Semifinals and will host Ohio State on Wednesday.

After trading points to begin the first set, the Ramblers scored four unanswered on a trio of Quincy errors and a Caldwell kill to take an 11-7 lead. Loyola maintained the steady lead behind kills from Gevis, Jendryk and Peter Hutz before back-to-back points, a block by Jaeschke and Nick Olson and a Quincy error, increased the Rambler lead to 17-11. The teams battled back-and-forth until kills from Jendryk and Hutz ended set one, 25-17, giving Loyola the 1-0 lead.

The second set began with the teams trading points until back-to-back kills from Jaeschke and Gevis, along with three Quincy errors, gave Loyola a 12-6 lead, forcing the Hawks to call a timeout. After a Quincy kill out of the timeout, Jaeschke and Gevis struck again to put Loyola on top, 15-7. The Ramblers maintained the steady lead behind kills from Caldwell and Olson before back-to-back points from Gevis, a kill and a shared block with Jendryk, increased Loyola's lead to 20-10. A Jaeschke kill ended the set at 25-14, giving Loyola the 2-0 lead.

The Ramblers raced out to a 6-1 lead to begin the third set, led by a Jaeschke service ace and a solo block from Gevis, to force a Quincy timeout. Gevis then scored two of the next three points out of the timeout, a block and a kill, to increase the Rambler lead to 8-2. Loyola continued to build a steady lead behind kills from Jaeschke, Jendryk and Owen McAndrews, as well as a string of Quincy errors, before McAndrews capped a 5-0 run with a solo block to give the Ramblers a 24-12 lead. A Quincy service ace ended the set, 25-13, to give Loyola the three-set victory.

Second-seeded Loyola will take on Ohio State, the third seed in the tournament, on Wednesday inside Gentile Arena.
