In Short...
Donte Thomas knocked down a three-pointer with 13 seconds left as Bradley scored the final five points of the game to stun Loyola, 54-53, tonight at Gentile Arena.
Devon Turk scored eight early points as Loyola opened up an eight-point lead after eight minutes, only to see Bradley cut the deficit to just two (23-21) at halftime. After Bradley scored the first four points to take its first lead of the night, a Turk three-pointer jumpstarted a 10-0 run that gave LU its eight-point edge back.
Baskets from Jeff White and Turk later made it an 11-point advantage and the lead was still eight (48-40) at the 6:23 mark before the Braves closed the game on a 14-5 run, including the last five points, to steal the victory.
Loyola shot just 39.5% from the floor for the game (Bradley: 40%) and was outrebounded, 37-24.
How It Happened
+ Turk opened the game by knocking down a pair of three-pointers but was forced to the bench less than three minutes into the game with two personal fouls
+ A 7-0 run, capped by a Julius Rajala bucket, gave Loyola its largest lead of the half (eight; 13-5)
+ Bradley pulled even twice in the closing minutes of the half but two Montel James free throws sent the Ramblers to the locker room with a 23-21 lead
+ Turk and James each had three points in the 10-0 run that turned a 25-23 deficit into a 33-25 lead early in the second half
+ Trailing by 10 (43-33) at the 10:41 mark, Bradley scored seven straight points to cut the deficit to three before the Ramblers quickly bumped the lead back to eight
+ Loyola led by four (53-49) after two Donte Ingram free throws but Bradley answered with two free throws and chose to extend the game by fouling
+ Doyle missed a pair from the stripe with 35 seconds left, setting up Thomas' game-winner on the ensuing possession
+ Loyola had three shots from inside five feet to win the game, but Doyle's initial shot missed and put-backs from White and James rolled around and out
Inside The Numbers
+ Much like Saturday against Missouri State, Loyola knocked down its first two from downtown but went just 3-of-14 the rest of the game
+ Loyola's 39.5% accuracy marked the sixth time this season that it has shot under 40% from the floor, more than all of last season (37 games)
+ Turk finished with a game-high 15 points and added five rebounds but only Earl Peterson (eight points) scored more than seven
+ With those 15 points, Turk moved past four people, including Nick Kladis and Walt Gibler, and into 33rd place on Loyola's all-time scoring list
+ Loyola entered the game leading The Valley in free throw percentage but shot just 14-of-21 (66.7%) from the stripe tonight, including the two key misses down the stretch
