In Short...
Milton Doyle scored eight of his 14 points in the second overtime, Montel James posted 28 points and 14 rebounds and Devon Turk added 22 points as Loyola held off Indiana State, 104-96 (2OT), in a wild game at Gentile Arena.

Loyola shot a sizzling 72% in the first half (18 of 25) but Indiana State answered with a 70% second half and the teams went to overtime tied at 81-all.

An Earl Peterson basket with seven seconds left in the first extra session ensured another five minutes and Doyle helped get the Ramblers on their way, as they never trailed in the second overtime.

How It Happened
+ After opening 2-for-16 from the floor on Wednesday night at Wichita State, Loyola hit 9-of-12 to start the game this afternoon
+ Both teams started out hot and Loyola led 26-20 after a Donte Ingram three-pointer less than 12 minutes into the game
+ Tied at 29, Turk scored seven points in an 11-0 Loyola run that gave LU a 40-29 lead with 2:17 left in the half
+ The Ramblers had two chances to extend the lead but, instead, Indiana State's Brenton Scott hit a leaning three-pointer in the final seconds to make it a 41-34 game at halftime
+ Back-to-back three-pointers from Matt Van Scyoc early in the second half quickly pulled the Sycamores within three, 44-41, with over 18 minutes to play
+ An Earl Peterson three-point play capped a 7-0 run that bumped the lead back to 10 but the Sycamores responded with the next six to get back within four (53-49)
+ Ben Richardson canned a three-pointer to give LU a 74-64 lead at the 6:35 mark before Indiana State rallied
+ Back-to-back Khristian Smith baskets capped a 7-0 run that gave Indiana State an 81-80 lead with 53 seconds left in regulation before James split a pair of free throws to send the game to overtime
+ Loyola led by as many as three early in the overtime period but the Sycamores took an 87-85 lead on a Brenton Scott three-pointer with 1:37 left
+ Turk and Doyle each split a pair from the free throw line to tie it but Devonte Brown hit a pair from the line to give ISU the lead back with 13 seconds to play
+ However, Peterson drove and scored in the paint to tie the game with seven seconds left and Brown's jumper was long as the game went to a second overtime
+ Two free throws and a long two-point jumper from Doyle accounted for the first four points of overtime and the lead moved to five (96-91) after a James free throw
+ Scott buried a long three-pointer to make it a one-possession game again but Doyle hit a fading basket towards the end of the shot clock to make it a 98-94 game with 26 seconds remaining
+ Indiana State missed on a pair of attempts and the Ramblers went 6-of-6 from the line in the last 17 seconds to seal the win

The Turning Point
Doyle knocked down a long two-point jumper in the final five seconds of the shot clock to give the Ramblers a four-point lead - two-possession game - in the second overtime.

Inside The Box Score
+ James was outstanding, scoring 22 of his career-high 28 points in the second half and overtimes, while tying his career-best with 14 rebounds
+ The Kenner, La. native went 18-for-20 from the free throw line -- the 18 makes are a single-game school record (box scores date back to 1977) and the 20 attempts are the most since J.R. Blount attempted 20 against Rockhurst on Nov. 14, 2008
+ The performance was James' third double-double of his career, all of which have come in the last 23 days
+ Doyle's first basket of the game came six minutes into the second half and pushed him over the 1,000-point mark for his career, the 42nd Loyola player to reach that milestone
+ After averaging just 3.8 ppg over his last six appearances and missing the Wichita State game with an injured hamstring, Turk broke out with a 22-point performance on 8-of-10 shooting
+ The trio of Doyle, James and Turk combined for 64 of Loyola's school-record 69 bench points, as the reserves outscored LU's starters, 69-35
+ Loyola finished the game shooting 52.5% and has now won 14 consecutive games when shooting 50% or better
+ The Ramblers' 104 points mark the first time they have scored over 100 points since hanging 106 on Robert Morris (Ill.) in the season opener of the 1996-97 season (Nov. 15, 1997 - a span of 571 games)
+ James' 28 points were the most by a Loyola bench player since Turk scored 30 against Missouri State on Jan. 5, 2014, Loyola's first MVC win
+ Loyola went 34-of-40 (85.0%) from the free throw line, its most makes and attempts since going 34-of-42 against Fairfield back on Nov. 25, 2006
+ The Ramblers scorched the nets at a 72% clip in the opening half, its best 20 minutes of shooting since hitting 15-of-18 (83.3%) in the second half of last season's victory over Abilene Christian
