In Short
Four players scored in double figures and Loyola University Chicago used a smothering defense to create opportunities at the offensive end of the floor in a 78-53 victory over Oral Roberts (1-3) this afternoon in the consolation round of the Paradise Jam. The Ramblers shot 54.4 percent (31-for-57) from the field to improve to 4-1 overall.

Coach Moser's Thoughts
“Today, our spacing was better and we moved and shared the ball. The key was the intensity we had on the defensive end and how that helped create offense.”

How It Happened
Loyola shot 60.7 percent (17-for-28) from the field in the first half and held Oral Roberts to 36.7 percent (11-for-30) en route to opening up a 40-28 halftime lead.

The Ramblers hit three of their first four attempts from three-point territory and Milton Doyle’s three put Loyola on top 17-5. ORU cut into the Loyola advantage and Jalen Bradley’s layup with 7:25 left in the period capped a 14-5 run that sliced the Loyola lead to 22-19.

Undeterred, Loyola answered right back and Aundre Jackson scored six straight points to spark the Ramblers’ ensuing 13-0 surge that bumped the lead back to 35-19.

Loyola never let up despite the double-digit halftime edge and Doyle started the second-half scoring with another three-pointer and then followed with a dunk to extend the lead to 45-28 and force Oral Roberts to burn a timeout.

The Ramblers put the game out of reach with an 11-0 run that featured five points from Ben Richardson and a trey from Clayton Custer as the lead ballooned to 63-34. Loyola would eventually lead by as many as 32 points before it cleared the bench in the closing minutes.
