In Short...
Kiana Coomber poured in a game-high 21 points but it wasn't enough as Clemson defeated the Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team, 61-40, this afternoon at the San Juan Shootout in Daytona Beach, Fla. Today's result from the Ocean Center sees the Tigers continue their perfect start to the season, moving to 6-0, while the Ramblers drop to 0-4.

How It Happened
Katie Salmon put the Ramblers on the board after splitting a pair of free throws at the 8:17 mark to make it 4-1 in favor of Clemson. Brandi Segars rattled home a jumper just a minute after to cut the Tigers' lead to 4-3. That would prove to be Loyola's final made field goal of the quarter as Clemson closed the frame on an 8-0 run to open up a 12-3 advantage following the opening 10 minutes.

Coomber's first triple of the afternoon pulled the Ramblers to within five, 12-7, with 8:08 to go in the second quarter. Two Danielle Edwards free throws at the 6:59 mark sparked an 11-2 Tiger run that pushed the margin to 23-9 following a Victoria Cardaci three with 4:14 remaining. Slowly but surely, Loyola chipped away as time wound down in the half. Three straight makes from Segars, Citiana Negatu and Coomber had the Ramblers down only seven, 25-18, heading to halftime.

A second-chance score by Coomber 11 seconds into the third quarter pulled the Maroon & Gold to within five, 25-20. Clemson responded with another 11-2 spurt that was capped off by a Kobi Thornton layup to stretch its lead to 36-22 with 4:44 to go. Lee Williams beat the buzzer with a put back that made it 39-26 after three.

Segars connected on a mid-range jumper to slice the deficit to 39-28 seconds into the final frame. Edwards responded with a deep three on the Tigers next trip down the floor that sparked an 11-0 run and pushed the Clemson lead to 50-28 at the 4:11 mark. Coomber would connect from beyond the three-point arc on the Ramblers' next two possessions but time would eventually run out as Clemson picked up a 61-40 victory.
