In Short...
Brooke Wyderski hit a two-run home run to jumpstart a four-run third inning and Kiley Jones made the big pitches when she needed to as Loyola earned a 7-3 win over NC State this afternoon at the NC State DoubleTree RDC Challenge.
The win is Loyola's first over a current ACC school since 2010 (8-0 win over Notre Dame) and pushes its record to 15-6, equaling its win total from the 2015 campaign.
Head Coach Jeff Tylka Says...
"I am extremely impressed with our fight and focus after such a long break in the middle of the day. We got a great effort from Kiley (Jones) and every hitter in the lineup contributed. Brooke Wyderski and Erica had good days and keep setting the tone for us. Jamie O'Brien also had a couple big hits that picked us up as well."
How It Happened
+ Loyola left three runners on base in the first two innings before finally breaking through in the third
+ Erica Nagel opened the inning with a four-pitch walk and, one out later, Wyderski blasted her eighth home run of the season to open the scoring
+ Brie Pasquale followed with a single, eventually coming home on a Katie Kasubke single, with Kasubke also scoring later in the inning on a wild pitch
+ Jones stranded two runners in the bottom half but Hanna Sommer hit a two-run homer in the fourth to cut the LU lead in half (4-2)
+ Jamie O'Brien came up with a big, two-out, run-scoring single in the fifth to give Loyola some breathing room and the Ramblers tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh, courtesy of a NC State error
+ Those runs would prove to be important as the Wolfpack loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, eventually pushing one run across before Jones shut the door
