In Short…
Sophomore Gabi Maciagowski ripped a game-high 15 kills but host Kansas State proved to be too much as it defeated the Loyola University Chicago women’s volleyball team, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-14), this afternoon in the final game of the Wildcat Classic at Ahearn Field House in Manhattan, Kan.

How It Happened
The afternoon’s opening set was a back and forth affair that featured six ties and a pair of lead changes. Loyola opened up an early 4-2 lead via a kill from sophomore Amanda Cushen that was followed by an attack error from the hosts. Both teams continued to trade the lead until a Bryna Vogel kill sparked a 4-0 Kansas State run that put the Wildcats in front, 13-10. A solo block from Cushen cut the deficit back down to two, 14-12, but Kansas State answered with a 3-0 spurt to establish a five-point edge, 17-12, en route to taking the first set by a final count of 25-19.

A kill from Katie Reininger sparked a 3-0 run to open the second set for Kansas State. Maciagowski’s fifth kill of the frame pulled the Ramblers back to within one, 9-8. Following an attack error that reestablished a three-point lead for the Wildcats, 15-12, Loyola ripped off three unanswered points of its own, the last of which came off of a service ace from freshman Quinn Spieker, to even the set up at 15 all. As was the case to begin the afternoon, Kansas State stepped on the gas to finish the set as it scored four of the final five points to claim a 25-21 victory.

A double block from the senior duo of Sami Hansen and Morgan Reardon put Loyola on the board first in a must-win third set. Things remained tight until, with Kansas State holding a 6-4 edge, the Wildcats erupted on a 9-1 run to open up a 15-5 margin. Loyola would battle back to cut that deficit in half, 18-13, after three consecutive Kansas State attack errors but a 4-0 spurt put to rest any hopes of a Rambler comeback as the Wildcats closed out a 25-14 third set victory.

Inside The Numbers
- Maciagowski’s finished the afternoon hitting at a .355 clip, a high for any Rambler. Her 15 kills were just seven off the Toronto, Ont. product’s career high of 22 that was set earlier this season against Wake Forest.

- For her efforts this weekend, Reardon was named to the Wildcat Classic’s All-Tournament Team. The Joliet, Ill. product averaged 12 kills over Loyola’s three contests, highlighted by a 17-kill effort in the Ramblers’ thrilling 3-2 win over Mississippi State on Friday night.
