Milton Doyle Named MVC Player Of The Week

CHICAGO - Milton Doyle (Chicago, Ill./Marshall/Kansas), a senior guard at Loyola University Chicago, has been named Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week it was announced today. This marks the second time this season that the 6-foot-4 Chicago native has earned the award.

Doyle averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 blocks and 3.5 steals per game as Loyola went 2-0 last week to run its win streak to three games. In addition, he shot 50 percent (10-for-20) from the field, 75 percent (3-for-4) from three-point territory and 84.6 percent (11-for-13) from the foul line.

The only player to rank in the top five in the Valley in both scoring and assists, Doyle is looking to join Blake Schilb as the only players in Rambler history to total 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists for his career. He currently ranks 12th on Loyola’s career-scoring chart with 1,484 points.

Doyle, who has scored in double digits in 24 consecutive contests, totaled 14 points, four assists, two blocks and four steals in a 70-50 win over Bradley on January 25 before putting up 20 points, six boards, three assists and three steals in an 81-66 victory at Indiana State last Saturday. Loyola is 5-1 this season when he scores 20 or more points and he has topped the 20-point plateau in three of the last four road games.

For the season, the versatile Doyle is putting up 15.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 4.6 apg and 1.7 spg, while shooting 47.9 percent (127-for-265) from the field, 36 percent (31-for-86) from three-point range, and 79.2 percent (80-for-101) from the foul line.

Loyola, which has its best record through 23 games (16-7) since 1984-85, is back in action tomorrow night when it travels to Missouri State (14-9, 5-5 MVC) for a pivotal league contest.
