In Short…

Senior Elliot Collier scored a pair of goals as the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team cruised past Evansville, 3-0, this evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Ind.  With the win, Loyola improves to 5-5-2 on the year (1-3-1 MVC), while the Purple Aces drop to 6-6-1 (0-3-1 MVC).

Coach Jones' Thoughts…
"Tonight was a very positive road result against a good Evansville side.  We worked hard as a group throughout, and were able to take our chances well.  We now must rest our bodies and prepare for a tough Chicago rivalry game on Tuesday."

How It Happened
Loyola controlled the possession game early on a warm fall evening in Southern Indiana.  Junior Ryan Walker sent the night's first shot high of goal four minutes into the first half.  The Rambler defensive unit limited chances for the hosts at the other end as it frustrated a potent Purple Aces offensive attack.

Collier put the Maroon & Gold in front in the 27th minute.  The Hamilton, New Zealand native settled a ball at the top of the box before unleashing a blast that bested Evansville goalkeeper Frederik Reimer at his near post to make it 1-0.  Loyola had a golden opportunity to double its lead just six minutes before halftime after an Evansville foul in the box.  Senior Kyle Thomson put his attempt from the penalty spot narrowly over the crossbar, leaving the Ramblers to settle for a one-goal lead heading into the locker room.

Following a back and forth start to the second stanza, the duo of Collier and junior Alec Lasinski provided Loyola with some insurance over a 90-second span.  In the 62nd minute, Collier raced into the box and played a ball back to an onrushing Lasinski, who rifled his attempt past Reimer to up the margin to 2-0.  Collier added his second tally of the night shortly after when he corralled a deflected cross inside the 18-yard box and slotted home as the lead ballooned to 3-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Evan Konermann, making his third consecutive start, notched a pair of saves in rapid succession on Ian McGrath, the Purple Aces' leading scorer, as time ticked down in regulation.  Sam Bonano came close to putting the hosts on the board in the 88th minute when his headed shot hit the post, but that would prove to be as close as Evansville would get on the night as Loyola closed out a 3-0 victory.

Looking At The Numbers
- Tonight marked Loyola's first victory on the road victory over Evansville since the 1993 season.
- Collier's two goals this evening bring his season total in the category to four, a mark that leads the Rambler roster.
- Loyola's defensive turned in another strong performance as it limited the Purple Aces to only two shots on goal.
- Konermann notched his second shutout in as many games, making two saves.
