Heather Kocken recorded a team-high six kills, but it wasn't enough to offset an Illinois State offense that hit .262 for the match en route to a 25-13, 25-22, 25-16 victory over Loyola University Chicago tonight at Redbird Arena. With the loss, the Ramblers fall to 1-15 overall and 0-5 in Missouri Valley Conference action.
How It Happened
Jaelyn Keene tallied four kills to spark a set-opening 9-4 run and Illinois State would hit .368 (12-4-23) en route to a 25-13 victory in set one. Loyola was unable to get on track offensively, hitting only .067 (7-5-30).
Heather Kocken helped spark the Ramblers to a 15-11 advantage in set two, smashing four kills to help Loyola take command. That lead wouldn't last long, however, as another Keene kill ignited a 7-3 run that evened the score at 18. The teams traded points until a kill from Sydney Holt and a Loyola hitting error put the Redbirds on top for good, at 22-20.
Illinois State took control early in the third set by recording each of the first four points before extending the lead to 10-4. Loyola trailed by as many as 11 points in the set before rallying late with three straight points to trim the deficit to 24-16.
