In Short…

No. 23/20 Marquette turned in an impressive all-around performance as it defeated Loyola University Chicago, 92-30, this afternoon at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wis.  With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 3-2, while the Ramblers slip to 0-5.

How It Happened
Abby O'Connor notched the first bucket of the day for the Maroon & Gold 41 seconds in as she finished on the edge of the painted area to cut Marquette's lead to 3-2.  A three from Allazia Blockton on the ensuing Golden Eagles possession sparked a 12-0 run for the hosts that saw the Marquette lead balloon to 15-2 as the Golden Eagles went on to stretch the margin to the 29-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Marquette kept its foot on the gas in the second frame, holding the Ramblers out of the scoring column until an Ellie Rice make at the free throw line with just under a minute remaining, to race into the locker room with a 57-12 lead.

The Golden Eagles continued to frustrate Loyola on the offensive end throughout the second half.  Back-to-back triples by Jessica Cerda trimmed the deficit to 75-23 at the 8:31 mark of the fourth quarter.  O'Connor finished her afternoon with a five-point spurt in the game's final minute, knocking down a shot from distance, as Marquette closed out a 92-30 victory.
