In Short…
Katie Salmon notched the second double-double of her collegiate career but host Bradley raced out in front early on and never looked back as it downed the Loyola University Chicago women’s basketball team tonight, 72-45, inside Renaissance Coliseum in Peoria, Ill. Bradley now sits at 4-6 in Missouri Valley Conference play (8-13 overall), while the Ramblers see their league record slip to 1-9 (2-19 overall).
How It Happened
Salmon’s first bucket of the night with just under two minutes gone put the Ramblers on the board and snapped a game-opening 7-0 spurt for the Braves. Bradley kept its foot on the gas, pushing its lead to 12, 14-2, on a Vanessa Markert jumper en route to taking a 23-6 edge at the end of one.
Tiara Wallace drove inside for a quick score to open the second quarter as Loyola searched for a spark on the offensive end. The homestanding Braves continued to operate at a torrid pace at their end, opening up a 43-13 advantage following an old-fashioned three-point play by Leti Lerma at the halfway point of the frame. A split at the line by Salmon brought an end to the run before Danielle Brewer beat the buzzer to send the hosts into the locker room with a 47-16 advantage.
Loyola came out and slowly but surely looked to chip away at its deficit. A post score by Kiana Coomber sparked a 13-0 spurt for the Maroon & Gold that included a pair of triples from Salmon and saw the Ramblers pull to within 55-32 with 2:09 remaining. Kaitlyn Williams first three-pointer of the night cut the margin back down to 23, 58-35, prior to a three-point play by Markert that gave the Braves a 61-35 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Williams ripped off five quick points of her own during the middle stages of the fourth quarter, knocking down another attempt from distance, to slice the margin to 69-45. A Brewer trey 22 seconds later proved to be the game’s final bucket as Bradley captured its second win in as many games.
