In Short
Consecutive run-scoring singles in the eighth inning helped lead Belmont to a 3-1 victory over Loyola University Chicago this afternoon at the Leon Smith Classic. The loss drops the Ramblers to 14-3 overall and they have scored just one run in their last three contests.

How It Happened
Belmont took the lead in the top of the third inning on Hayley Baker’s two-out single that scored Amy Zeronian, who had led off with a single.

Loyola tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the sixth when Shannon McGee led off with a bunt single and promptly stole second to get into scoring position with no outs. Jordyn Cordell came through in the clutch, registering an infield hit that scored pinch runner Elyse Nakamoto to even the score.

The Ramblers had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh when Erica Nagel reached on a two-out error and moved to third on a wild pitch. McGee walked and stole second giving Loyola runners in scoring position, but Belmont pitcher Brooklin Lee struck out Katie Kasubke to end the threat.

Playing under international tiebreaker rules, the Bruins plated a pair of runs in the top of the eighth on back-to-back RBI singles by Baker and Lexi Rouse to seize a 3-1 advantage. Loyola had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the inning, but was unable to push across a run as it dropped its third straight game.
