In Short
Loyola University Chicago couldn’t capitalize on its scoring opportunities, stranding 10 runners on base, in a 2-0 loss to Southeast Missouri State this afternoon at the Leon Smith Classic at Choccolocco Park. The loss drops the Ramblers to 14-2 overall, while the Redhawks improve to 11-4.

How It Happened
Southeast Missouri grabbed an early lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning on Rachel Anderson’s triple to left field that plated Mykaela Arellanes.

Loyola came away empty-handed after putting runners at first and second with one out in the second inning on a walk to Ashley Parenti and a single by Jordyn Cordell. Parenti’s two-out walk in the fourth was followed by another hit from Cordell and a walk to Jamie O’Brien, but SEMO once again slipped out of the jam without damage.

The Redhawks added an insurance run in the fifth on Arellanes’ RBI double, but Loyola mounted a couple of rallies in its final two turns at bat. Katie Kasubke’s leadoff single in the sixth was followed by Alyssa Mannucci’s walk and the runners moved to second and third on Parenti’s sacrifice bunt. A walk to Cordell loaded the bags with Ramblers with just one out, but Loyola couldn’t push across a run and cut into the deficit.

Singles by Brooke Wilson and Shannon McGee in the seventh gave Loyola runners at first and second with one out, but the Ramblers were again unable to keep the rally going as they dropped their second straight game after opening the year with 14 consecutive wins.

A Look At The Numbers
- Jordyn Cordell went 2-for-2 with a walk to lead Loyola’s offense.
- Keenan Dolezal suffered her first loss of the year, allowing two runs in 5.0 innings of work.

Up Next
Loyola continues play at the Leon Smith Classic tomorrow when it battles Belmont and Jacksonville State.
