In Short
Host UIC (30-18) scored three runs in the first inning and held on for a 5-2 victory over Loyola University Chicago this afternoon at Flames Field. The loss snaps the Ramblers’ modest two-game winning streak and drops them to 24-21 overall.

How It Happened
UIC got on the board in the bottom of the first on Jasmine Willis’ two-out, three-run home run to left field for an early 3-0 lead and was able to make that advantage hold up the rest of the afternoon.

The Ramblers knocked the deficit down to a single run with two runs in the top of the fifth and made it look like they were on the verge of a come-from-behind win. Emily Borg and Shannon McGee got the rally moving with back-to-back singles to lead off the inning and Erica Nagel followed with a RBI ground out that plated pinch runner Naidelyn Medina. After Katie Kasubke worked a base on balls, Ashley Parenti reached on a run-scoring fielder’s choice that cut the UIC lead to 3-2, but that was all the damage Loyola could inflict on the Flames.

UIC quickly pushed the lead back to three runs in the middle of the inning however, scoring a run on a RBI fielder’s choice and another on a Loyola error, as the Ramblers dropped their fourth straight non-conference game after a 17-4 start in non-MVC contests.

A Look At The Numbers
- Emily Borg, who was making her first start since April 4, had a pair of hits.
- Jordyn Cordell went 2-for-3 for a Loyola offense that recorded nine hits for the third time in the last six games.

Up Next
Loyola, which has won six of its last seven Missouri Valley Conference games, looks for a series sweep when it visits Indiana State tomorrow.
