In Short
Host Illinois State (19-16, 9-3 MVC) homered eight times to roll to a 15-0 victory over Loyola University Chicago (18-17, 1-11 MVC) in five innings at Marian Kneer Stadium this afternoon.
How It Happened
Loyola couldn’t take advantage of a terrific scoring opportunity in the top of the second inning. Katie Kasubke singled and Alyssa Mannucci followed with a walk before Brooke Wilson bunted them over and gave the Ramblers runners in scoring position with one out. However, Sarah Finck wiggled her way out of the jam, as Loyola’s squeeze attempted failed and the righthander closed the inning by getting Jacquelyn Murphy to pop out.
Riding that momentum, Illinois State grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second when Allison Spence led off with a solo home run to left field to give the Redbirds a 1-0 lead.
ISU broke the game open with a nine-run third inning that featured five home runs, including three-run blasts by both Jordan de los Reyes and Riley Hale.
A Look At The Numbers
- Shannon McGee extended her hitting streak to four games with a third-inning single.
- Illinois State totaled 13 hits, 10 of which went for extra bases.
