Box Score (PDF)

In Short…

Junior Alec Lasinski broke a scoreless stalemate in the 68th minute of play as the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team defeated Stetson, 1-0, on the final day of the NIU Adidas Invitational in DeKalb, Ill.  Today's result from DeKalb, Ill. sees the Ramblers climb back over the .500 mark, moving to 3-2-0 overall, while the Hatters slip to 1-4-0.

Coach Jones' Thoughts…
"The guys showed great resiliency today in bouncing back from Friday.  I'm proud of the way we battled and continued to fight.  Our defensive performance was much improved and Marius, Elliot and Alec were able to provide the spark we needed in the offensive third to get a victory.  Now we'll turn our attention towards a challenging conference road test at Bradley on Wednesday night."

How It Happened
Following an early attempt by junior Tucker Stephenson, Stetson nearly went in front when Ian McCauley's headed effort rang off the crossbar in the 22nd minute.  Loyola looked to apply pressure in the Hatters' third shortly after as Lasinski and Collier both saw their respective attempts blocked away.

Loyola came close to cashing in off of a set piece opportunity just before halftime.  Junior Fabian Lifka sent a corner kick into the box that found a leaping Lucas Bartlett, who headed his try off the Stetson crossbar.  That would prove to be the final chance of the opening half as the two sides headed the locker room deadlocked at 0-0.

Both teams struggled to put shots on frame during the second half's early stages.  Lasinski notched the first attempt of the second stanza and made the most of the opportunity.  Collier sent a cross that found its way inside the six-yard box before connecting with Lasinski.  The junior directed his attempt under Stetson goalkeeper Joseph Melong to put the Ramblers in front, 1-0, with just over 20 minutes to play in regulation.

Sophomore Aidan Megally forced a stop out of Melong in the 76th minute before freshman Aidan Aylward matched his goalkeeping counterpart with a crucial stop just one minute later to preserve the Loyola lead.  Loyola would go a man up in the 83rd minute following Brock Exline's second yellow card of the afternoon as it went on to close out a 1-0 victory.

Looking At The Numbers
- Lasinski netted his second goal of the season as part of today's win, while Collier and sophomore Marius Kullmann were both credited with assists.
- The contest took on a physical tone from the onset as the two teams combined for 22 fouls and five cards.
- The Ramblers finished the day with a 7-4 advantage in shots.
- Aylward collected the Hatters' only attempt on target of the afternoon en route to picking up the first shutout of his collegiate career.
- For their efforts on the weekend, the Loyola trio of Collier, Megally and senior Kyle Thomson were named to the NIU Adidas Invitational's All-Tournament Team.
