In Short…
Host Wisconsin dealt the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team a 2-0 defeat this evening at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis. With the win, the Badgers move to 3-1-2 (1-1-1 Big Ten), while the Ramblers slip to 3-4-0 (0-2-0 MVC).
How It Happened
Sophomore
Aidan Megally notched the first attempt of the night for either team in the 13
th minute when he had his shot blocked following a corner kick from junior
Fabian Lifka. Just 10 minutes later, senior
Kyle Thomson forced a stop of Philipp Schilling, the Badger netminder.
Wisconsin found its breakthrough goal just past the half-hour mark. Freshman goalkeeper
Aidan Aylward made an initial stop on a shot from Chris Mueller before Tom Barlow cleaned up the ensuing rebound to put the home side on the board first, 1-0. Aylward bounced back, making a pair of stops before the half concluded to keep the Ramblers' deficit at one heading into the intermission.
Mueller doubled the hosts' lead, 2-0, seven minutes into the second stanza as he converted from the penalty spot following a Loyola foul inside the 18-yard box. Junior
Alec Lasinski looked to pull a goal back for the Maroon & Gold in the 57
th minute, sending his shot wide. Schilling was called into action again in the 65
th minute when he turned away senior
Elliot Collier's blast.
Both sides struggled to generate chances as time ticked away in regulation. Lasinski's headed try to cut the deficit down to one in the 86
th minute was collected by Schilling in what would prove to be the final attempt of the night for either team as the Badgers closed out a 2-0 victory.
