In Short…
Loyola knocks off Northern Illinois, 1-0 on Tuesday night for its fifth win in a row.
Alec Lasinski picked up the Ramblers' tally, his first of the season. The Ramblers wore special purple jerseys as a part of Cancer Awareness Night at Loyola Soccer Park.
Coach Jones' Thoughts
"In the first half we were trying to figure them out, and they did a better job of figuring us out," head coach Neil Jones said."[I] was very proud of our guys how they handled adversity tonight, and how they dug in and fought for each other and for their teammates. It was a very strong defensive performance."
How It Happened
Goalkeeper
Josh Lagudah looked sharp early, making his first of seven saves right away in the fourth minute. The Huskies would go on to post two more shots within the half's first 25 minutes and quickly jump out to a 4-0 advantage in the aforementioned category.
Lagudah made one more save in the 30
th minute, then it was the Ramblers who tilted the field and controlled the tempo.
Aidan Megally sent an open look high in the 37
th minute as the first shot for the Maroon and Gold. The Ramblers added their first two shots on goal in the 43
rd minute, but the Huskies' goalkeeper was up to the task, keeping the game scoreless heading into the halftime break.
In the 49th minute, Megally came out firing with the first shot on goal of the second half with a rip from about 35 yards. Then it was Lagudah's turn with a save of his own 41 seconds later.
Perhaps his best of the night was a stop in the 64
th minute when the Huskies came close to capitalizing on an open net. When NIU's Nick Markanich got the shot off, Lagudah slid back in position to make a kick-save and keep the match scoreless.
Loyola finally found the back of the net in the 79
th minute with
Alec Lasinski's first goal of the season. The Ann Arbor, Mich. native was set up by
Tucker Stephenson dribbling into the box, dishing it out to Lasinski where he sent it home. The newfound lead would be all the Ramblers needed in their Tuesday night outing.
Loyola buckled down on defense after the goal and fought off four NIU shots down the stretch, one of which was on goal and another skimmed the cross bar. Despite their best efforts, The Huskies couldn't solve the Rambler back line and Loyola held on for its fifth straight win.
A Look At The Numbers
-The five-game winning streak is Loyola's longest since 2016.

-
Alec Lasinski picked up his 27
