In Short
Led by 11 kills apiece from Gabi Maciagowski and Quinn Spieker, Loyola University Chicago (14-9, 6-5 MVC) earned a hard-fought, 25-23, 25-23, 26-24, sweep of host Drake (16-9, 5-6 MVC) tonight at Knapp Center. With the victory, the Ramblers ran their winning streak to three and moved into sole possession of fifth place in the Missouri Valley Conference race while also pushing their improvement in the win column from a year ago to nine matches.

How It Happened
Two Drake attack errors helped power a 4-0 spurt that snapped a tie and gave Loyola a 14-10 edge in the first set. The Ramblers' lead would grow to as many as five points on a pair of occasions, the last coming at 21-16 on a block from Maciagowski and Spieker, but the Bulldogs rallied, rattling off seven of the next nine points to knot the score at 23. Undeterred, Loyola closed out a 25-23 victory with a kill from Maciagowski before Elle Van Grinsven and Delilah Wolf teamed up to turn away a Drake attack for set point.

Loyola assembled a 5-0 run to overcome a two-point deficit and claim a 19-16 lead in the second set as Van Grinsven recorded a kill and a block assist in that stretch. Drake stormed back however, evening the proceedings at 20-20 before kills from Van Grinsven and Spieker, along with a block, gave the Ramblers the lead for good and they held on for a 25-23 decision.

The Ramblers raced out to a 6-1 lead in set three and appeared to be in control when a kill from Maciagowski placed them comfortably ahead, 15-10. Once again, however, Drake refused to go down without a battle and surged ahead, 21-19, thanks to a 11-4 run. Loyola, which withstood the Bulldogs' rallies in the first two sets, rebounded from a 22-20 deficit and closed out the match on a 6-2 run that featured a kill and a block from Spieker, for a 26-24 win and its second straight sweep.
