Loyola Picks Up One Point at Valpo in a 0-0 Draw

In Short…
Neither team could find the back of the net in Loyola's road MVC match against Valparaiso. The Ramblers (4-4-2, 1-0-2 MVC) finished with three shots on goal while Josh Lagudah registered a save in his shutout effort.

Coach Jones' Thoughts
"Firstly, I would like to thank Valparaiso's coaching and facilities staff for the work done to reschedule this game," head coach Neil Jones said. "In the first half we played poorly, and did not match Valpo's intensity. If you ever do that at this level, you're asking for trouble. The second half was better, but to earn road wins in this league we muts put in complete performances. Now we prepare our bodies and minds for a very good Xavier team on Tuesday."

How It Happened
A pair of Valpo shots got the action started early in the match, but the Ramblers answered quickly with a hot-shot off the foot of Oskar Gustafsson that rang off the cross bar in the 17th minute.

The Maroon and Gold kept the pressure on in the following minutes, beginning with a Grant Stoneman shot off a Fabian Lifka corner kick that went wide in the 24th minute. Billy Hency followed up that effort with a header from inside the box, but Valparaiso goalkeeper Nacho Miras was in position to turn the attempt away and keep the match scoreless.

Valpo had a 5-4 shot advantage at the half, but Tucker Stephenson notched the first of the second frame – his first of the evening to increase his team lead.

As the half progressed, the Loyola defense stepped up to support Josh Lagudah in goal. A pair of shot blocks in the 67th and 68th minute kept the match tied, while Lagudah held his own when he needed to, highlighted by a save off a header in the 72nd minute.

Stephenson logged the final shot on goal of regulation, Miras was up to the task again to keep the match scoreless through regulation.

Entering its second consecutive match that required overtime, the Ramblers did not record a shot in the first extra frame, but kept the ball out of their own net as well thanks to the Crusaders' lone shot sailing wide on a header.

Alec Lasinski found himself in position to notch the last shot on goal of the game, but his 110th minute attempt ultimately was Miras' third save of the night and kept the match scoreless. With the draw, both Valpo and Loyola picked up one MVC point, pushing Loyola's total to five through three conference games.

A Look At The Numbers
-The 0-0 draw is good for Josh Lagudah's fourth shutout of the season.
-Tucker Stephenson led the Ramblers with three shots in Sunday's contest, increasing his team lead to 19 on the year.
-The draw extends a five-match road MVC unbeaten streak for the Maroon and Gold, dating back to last season.
-Billy Hency notched one of the Ramblers' three shots on goal. The Fenton, Mo. native has now posted at least one shot on goal in two consecutive matches.
