CHICAGO (November 8, 2018) – After opening the season on the road last week
, Loyola University Chicago will make its first appearance at Gentile Arena on Monday evening when it hosts Detroit Mercy in the 2018-19 home opener. Tip-off against the Titans is slated for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Loyola erased a 17-point deficit but was unable to hold off Youngstown State, falling to the Penguins by a final score of 74-63 this past Friday in Youngstown, Ohio.
Janae Gonzales finished with a team-high 14 points to lead a quartet of Ramblers to reach double figures in scoring in the defeat.
LOYOLA – DETROIT MERCY – THE SERIES
Loyola and Detroit Mercy will clash for the 69th time in Monday's home opener in Rogers Park. The Titans have prevailed in 47 of the previous 68 meetings, including 11 of the last 13 encounters. The two former conference rivals have not met since February 21, 2013, prior to Loyola departing the Horizon League for the Missouri Valley Conference. Loyola snapped a four-game losing streak to Detroit Mercy in that matchup, picking up a 91-81 victory inside Gentile Arena.

Detroit Mercy has split its first two games to open the 2018-19 season. The Titans picked up a 68-60 victory over Michigan-Dearborn on November 6, before dropping a 55-41 road decision at Ohio State three days later (November 9). Head coach Bernard Scott is in his fourth year in charge in the Motor City and leads a Detroit Mercy team that was tabbed ninth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll after going 2-28 (2-16 HL) last season. Sophomore Lexey Tobel has provided Scott's team with an early boost on the offensive end this season, averaging 17.5 points over the Titans' first two contests. Zoey Oatis (12.5 ppg) and Brittney Jackson (12.0 ppg) also average in double figures in scoring, while Paige Bellman has been a force on the glass, averaging 10.0 rebounds in two starts on the young season.
