CHICAGO (November 8, 2018) – Looking to build off a victory earlier in the week, Loyola University Chicago will make the short trip across town to take on UIC on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from inside Credit Union 1 Arena is slated for 3:12 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Loyola used a dominant showing in the fourth quarter, shooting 58 percent over the final 10 minutes, to battle past visiting Detroit Mercy, 52-43, this past Monday at Gentile Arena.
Allison Day led the Maroon & Gold with 14 points and nine rebounds as Loyola picked up its first home-opening win since 2013.
LOYOLA – UIC – THE SERIES
Saturday's matinee marks the 65th meeting between Loyola and UIC in women's basketball. The Ramblers enjoy a slight 34-30 lead in the previous 64 encounters, 39 of which came when the two city rivals were members of the Horizon League. Loyola picked up a thrilling 57-55 victory over UIC at Gentile Arena on December 22, 2017.
Tiara Wallace's layup with only 0.9 seconds remaining in regulation sealed a comeback victory for the Ramblers that saw them erase a five-point lead in the final 3:34 en route to victory.
Abby O'Connor (11 points) and
Ellie Rice (10 points) both reached double figures in scoring for the Ramblers.
WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE
UIC sits at 1-1 on the year entering Saturday's meeting with the Ramblers. The Flames defeated Valparaiso, 75-65, in their season-opener back on November 7 before dropping a 87-44 decision at Northwestern on Thursday night in Evanston, Ill. There is a new face at the head of the UIC bench this season. Tasha Pointer, who starred collegiately at Rutgers under C. Vivian Stringer, was named the Flames' new head coach back on April 3, 2018. The pairing of Brittany Byrd and Tylah Lampley has led the way for Pointer's team early on this season. Byrd, a Second Team Preseason All-Horizon League honoree, poured in 28 points in the Flames' win over the Crusaders and added 11 points against the Wildcats earlier in the week. Lampley, who did not play in the Flames' defeat at Northwestern, chipped in 21 points of her own in the team's season-opening victory.
