Boxscore (PDF)

ROSEMONT, Ill. (February 10, 2018)

In Short
Kiley Jones tossed a complete game and did not allow an earned run, and Loyola University Chicago (2-2) scored three runs in the first inning, to earn a 3-2 victory over IUPUI this afternoon at the Total Control Sports Invitational. Jones improved to 2-0 on the season in tossing her second complete game in as many starts.

How It Happened
Loyola scored all of the runs Jones would need in the first inning and the junior righthander made that lead hold up as Loyola improved to 2-2 on the season.

The Ramblers got things cooking right off the bat in the bottom the first as Shannon McGee and Jordyn Cordell opened the frame with consecutive singles. One out later, Allyson Ivey stroked a single down the right field line to bring in McGee and after Brooke Wilson reached on a fielder's choice, Jamie O'Brien stroked a triple to right center that cleared the bases and gave Loyola a 3-0 advantage.

Fort Wayne got within a run thanks to a pair of tallies in the top of the fifth, but Jones was able to minimize the damage. The Mastodons put the tying run on base in the top of the seventh when pinch hitter Rachel Everson led off with a base on balls, but Jones bore down and after a sacrifice bunt moved the tying run into scoring position, the righthander struck out the next two hitters to send the Ramblers to their second win of the tournament.

A Look At The Numbers
  • Jones allowed four hits and struck out three to improve to 2-0 on the season.
  • Loyola pounded out six hits, two each from McGee and Cordell.
  • Center fielder Brooke Imel went 2-for-2 top lead the Fort Wayne attack.
