After week off, Loyola set for five games in three days at Lamar

Live Stats

CHICAGO (February 22, 2018) –
After having inclement weather prevent the team from getting to Houston for games against Texas Southern and Houston Baptist last weekend, Loyola University Chicago will make a second attempt to get to the Lone Star State as it competes in the Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, Texas this weekend.

Loyola opened the 2018 season two weeks ago by posting a 3-2 mark at the Total Control Sports Invitational at The Dome in Rosemont. Junior righthander Kiley Jones had an impressive opening weekend, going 3-0 with a 0.45 ERA in three starts, while Jordyn Cordell (.500) and Shannon McGee (.438) got off to hot starts at the plate.

The Ramblers will face Alabama A&M, host Lamar, and Binghamton, in the three-day tournament. Loyola kicks off the action on Friday when it battles Alabama A&M and then Lamar.

Scouting Alabama A&M
The Aggies went winless at the Pine Bluff Classic two weeks ago, falling to Drury and Arkansas-Pine Bluff before dropping a two-run contest at home to Austin Peay on February 13. As a team, Alabama A&M is batting just .186 this season, with senior Imani Largin leading the way with a .375 average (3-for-8).

Scouting Lamar
Lamar has played a grueling schedule, facing four top-20 teams in its first nine games, The Cardinals sport a 3-6 overall record, but do own a victory over Kansas. Junior infielder Savana Guidry leads Lamar with a .414 batting average (12-for-29). As a staff, the Cardinals have struggled in the circle against a challenging schedule, and sport a 6.04 ERA.

Scouting Binghamton
Binghamton will be making its 2018 season debut this weekend, but the Bearcats have been a power in the America East Conference, winning the regular-season league title in each of the past two seasons. Two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region outfielder Jessica Rutherford leads the Bearcats, and last season, hit .358 (54-for-151) with 10 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 38 RBI.

Up Next
Loyola opens its spring break trip on March 2 when it faces La Salle and LIU Brooklyn at the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational.
