Box Score

In Short…

Ricky Gevis recorded a season-high tying 16 kills as No. 6 Loyola University Chicago rolled to a 25-17, 25-19, 25-10 victory over No. 7 Lewis this evening inside Gentile Arena.  The victory improves the Ramblers' overall record to 13-3 and puts Loyola atop the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) standings at 6-1 in league play.

How It Happened
With Lewis out to an early 4-3 lead in set one, a Jeff Jendryk kill sparked a 5-0 Rambler run that was punctuated by Colin Mahan's spike, sending Loyola in front, 8-4.  The visitors battled back to chip the margin down to two, 11-9, but Loyola answered back with another spurt, stretching the lead to 19-11 on another Jendryk kill en route to cruising to a 25-17 win.

Loyola struggled to gain a foothold in the second set until back-to-back kills from Gevis and Ryan Jamison gave the Maroon & Gold their first lead, 15-14.  Lewis pulled level at 15-15 after a Rambler service error but another Gevis hammer laid the groundwork for a 4-0 run that put the Ramblers back on top, 19-15.  The Flyers would get no closer than three for the remainder of the frame, with a Lewis attack error sealing a 25-19 triumph.

Following a service error that evened the third set at three apiece, Loyola put any hope of a Flyer comeback away with a stretch that saw it rattle of 10 of the set's next 11 points to create separation.  A Jendryk service ace gave the Ramblers a 13-4 as Loyola went on to put an exclamation point on the night as a Collin Mahan kill capped off a convincing 25-10 victory.
