CHICAGO (March 16, 2018) - Loyola opens Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend when it travels downstate to face Southern Illinois in a three-game series, which begins with a doubleheader on Saturday. The Ramblers have prevailed in five of their last six contests and are averaging 9.0 runs per game over the last four outings. When the Ramblers play game one of a doubleheader on Saturday in Carbondale, they will be looking to earn a win in their Valley opener for the first time since 2015 when they knocked off Evansville, 16-5, at The Dome in Rosemont, Illinois. Two years ago, Loyola kicked off league play versus Southern Illinois in Carbondale and dropped the first two contests before having the third game cancelled due to inclement weather.Â
No Sophomore Slump Here
Slump hasn't entered sophomore Shannon McGee's vocabulary this season. The left-handed hitting outfielder, who last year hit a team-best .290, is off to a sizzling start in 2018, batting .435 (30-for-69) with three doubles, three triples, and 13 RBI. She comes into this weekend's Missouri Valley Conference opener on an 11-game hitting streak. During that stretch, she has raised her batting average 35 points by hitting .462 (18-for-39) with three doubles, three triples and nine RBI. McGee has produced 10 multi-hit games already this season, including a pair of three-hit efforts, and over the last three contests, the Chardon, Ohio native is batting .583 (7-for-12). She was named MVC Player of the Week on March 12.
