Box Score In Short…
Katie Kasubke recorded three RBI, highlighted by a two-run home run, as Loyola University Chicago (13-10, 1-1 MVC) defeated Southern Illinois (15-10, 1-1 MVC) in the second game of a doubleheader this afternoon at Charlotte West Stadium in Carbondale, Ill.
Â
How It Happened
Loyola wasted no time in jumping in front.
Shannon McGee belted a leadoff solo home run to quickly vault the Ramblers out to a 1-0 lead. Southern Illinois answered back in the bottom half of the frame, pulling even at 1-1 on a Katelyn Massa sacrifice bunt.
Â
Kasubke gave Loyola the lead for good in the top of the third inning. Following a McGee walk, the junior belted a two-run shot to put the Maroon & Gold back on top, 3-1. Massa again provided a response in the Salukis' half of the third, lacing an RBI single to trim the margin to 3-2.
Â
The Ramblers added a pair of valuable insurance runs in the late innings. Wilson drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth before Kasubke delivered her second hit of the game, doubling home McGee in the seventh, to stretch the lead to 5-2.Â
Kiley Jones worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the bottom half of the inning to close out Loyola's first conference win of the season.
Â
Looking At The Numbers
- Kasubke paced the Ramblers, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.
- McGee went a perfect 2-for-2, drawing a pair of walks to go along with her solo shot and a single.
